General objective of the project
The major objective of INOVABIOMED is to increase research & development and knowledge transfer capacity by setting up 10 new research laboratories and upgrading 6 existing research laboratories within the UPB, to ensure the conditions for the development of a core of excellence in Romania, within a competitive economic sector.
The project aims to develop top-level facilities in the Priority Eco-Nano-Technologies and Advanced Materials field, thus, the equipment, expertise and research themes being selected for the ultimate goal of introducing innovative, efficient and safe nanotechnologies and nano products with impact on health, increasing the chances of attracting foreign investment and developing high technology sectors.
INOVABIOMED's research and innovation targets important contributions not only in the private sector, but also in the public sector, which plays an essential social and economic role as a service provider, employer and regulator.
- Developing and strengthening the RDI infrastructure of UPB by establishing a unique centre of excellence at national level with its central core in the CAMPUS building and consisting of three integrated thematic modules comprising 16 modern laboratories equipped with the latest generation equipment. The centre addresses clinical users and industrial actors to widen the number of innovation services and products which may support the increase of the Romanian economy's competitiveness through innovation (1st general objective of national strategy) and by promoting scientific excellence.
- Creation and endowment of 10 new research laboratories at CAMPUS site and modernization of 6 existing research laboratories in the other 3 locations of the project, establishment of a competitive, advanced, integrated and sustainable research infrastructure that will significantly improve and expand the capacity UPB to develop research projects in the field of innovative technologies by complex and inter-, multi- and transdisciplinary approaches of nanotechnologies and advanced materials for biomaterials and biomedical products.
- Procurement of 32 top-level technology equipment at national and international level, with values higher than 100,000 euros and the cumulative procurement of 56 equipment to be used to develop the 20 research themes proposed by the project.
- Increasing the capacity of UPB to develop excellence research through the formation of the future generation of highly qualified specialists, involving 6 faculties of UPB: Applied Chemistry and Materials Science, Medical Engineering, Energy, Applied Sciences, Engineering and Management of Technological Systems, Science and Engineering Materials, and hiring young scientists, doctoral and post-graduate students to operate the equipment and develop new research topics related to nanotechnologies, biomaterials and biomedical products, targeting the direct benefits for the economic sector.
